US & Canada
US and Canada refund rights are more case-by-case.
Unlike the EU, the US and Canada usually do not give every online SaaS buyer a simple 14-day refund right. Your best argument depends on billing accuracy, cancellation difficulty, disclosure, province or state law, and whether the charge is a credit-card billing error.

United States
US rules that might matter
Use these carefully. They are not automatic refund guarantees.
| Issue | Possible rule | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| I just regret buying Pro | Usually policy-based, not a federal cooling-off right | Ask politely under Perplexity or app-store policy. Do not claim a fake US 14-day law. |
| The subscription renewed without clear notice | FTC negative-option and state automatic-renewal rules may matter | Explain what was unclear about renewal, price, consent, cancellation, or reminder emails. |
| Canceling was harder than signing up | FTC recurring-subscription rules and state laws may matter | Document each cancellation attempt with dates and screenshots. |
| Duplicate, wrong amount, or service not received | Fair Credit Billing Act / card billing-dispute process may apply | Try merchant support first, then dispute with the card issuer within the issuer/legal deadline if it is a billing error. |
| Misleading price, trial, or feature claim | FTC Act and state consumer-protection laws may matter | Quote the exact claim and attach screenshots. Keep the refund request factual. |
Canada
Canadian rules that might matter
Canada has federal deceptive-marketing rules, but many consumer-contract rights are provincial or territorial.
| Issue | Possible rule | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Misleading price, trial, or subscription claim | Competition Act deceptive marketing rules | State what claim or general impression misled you and include screenshots. |
| Online agreement missing required information | Provincial internet-agreement laws may apply | Check your province's consumer protection site; some provinces allow cancellation if required disclosures were missing. |
| Automatic renewal confusion | Provincial consumer-protection and unfair-practice rules | Document renewal notices, cancellation path, and the exact checkout terms. |
| Credit-card billing error | Card issuer dispute rules | Contact Perplexity/store first, then your issuer if the charge is wrong, duplicate, unauthorized, or not delivered as agreed. |
| Quebec or Ontario resident | Province-specific consumer contract rules may be especially relevant | Use your provincial consumer-protection authority for the exact rule before escalating. |
